6th: Polar bears

Polar bears are huge animals that live near the North Pole. They have an amazing sense of smell, big and white fur, furry ears, big claws and this layers of fat. On midwinter days in the Arctic winter, the sun does not rise at all. The Arctic is so cold that the surface of the sea freezes over. Seals eat the fish that live under the frozen see, and play bears eat them. Male bears go hunting all through the long dark winter except being in bad storms.
Pregnant female bears make dens for their cubs. In December, they have one or two tiny cubs, and live with them. Their mother feeds them on her creamy milk, nevertheless he has nothing at all to eat herself.
When spring comes, the snow starts to melt. Then, the mother and her cubs start to act. They stay together for two years. While polar bear cubs follow their mother everywhere, they learn how to hunt the seals. Life in the Arctic is very difficult, so over half of poler bear cubs die before they become 2 years old. Sometimes they are killed by male bears.
In the early summer, the sea is still frozen. But there are the breathing holes used by seals. Polar bears wait for the seals in the front of the holes. When seals come out of the holes, bears that watch it will try to hunt them with its strong paw.
