14th: The goose-girl

There was a queen, whose husband had died. She took care of her only child who was very beautiful. They loved each other. There was a good fairy too, who loved the daughter and help her mother to watch over her. One day, it decided that she would marry with a prince who lived a great way off. The queen prepared many expensive things for her long journey, gave her a waiting-maid to ride and their horses. The princess one was called Flada, and could speak. When the time came for them to set out, the fairy gave the princess a lock of her hair that may be useful for her on the road. She put the hair into her bosom, and started her journey.
But during the journey, the princess was made to change places with the maid because the made made her change her clothes and horses with her ones. When they arrived at their destination, there was great joy at their coming. The prince met them and thought the maid was the one who was to be his wife. He took her to the royal chamber, but the true princess was told to stay in the court below. The old king saw what had been happening in the court. As she looked pretty and delicate, he went up into the chamber and asked the bride who was the women left standing in the court below. The bride answered that she was her maid. And asked him to give her some work not to be idle. He decided to give her a job for taking care of his geese.

The ending was terrible for me. But I recommend you to read this story and see how the true princess would be!!
